Stanilsaus Report 17 Years, 11 Months ago
|
|
I fished the middle fork of the stan over the weekend with a few friends. The weather was real nice out there, and the fishing wasn't too bad either. I hooked into 9 fish and landed 7 of em. Nothing too big, but some feisty little guys. One rainbow hit my dry fly the second it landed on the water. He cleared the water completely, set the hook and did some acrobtics about 4 more times before i got him to net. Also brought in a few browns.
My brother isaac (iceman on this board) landed a 20 inch brown that he caught on a beatle imitation. He spotted the guy slurping bugs that fell into the water from a tree branch. Apparently he tried for an hour to get this guy, but never had the right fly. The beatle was his last ditch effort and that was what got him.
I mostly fished w/ a bwo fly. May have caught less that way, but it sure was fun.
Over all it was a great day. It's always fun hitting up new places and this is definitely a spot I will come back to and stay for a few days. Also... it was posted that there are NZ mud snails in this part of the river. (FYI)

Nice report, Sammy, and ditto your feelings about the board.
Maybe, everyone was fishing the Trinity like me when you posted?

Sorry I missed the post earlier, Sammy.
Great report. I have only fished that section of water once, many year ago. I really need to get back up there. Maybe we could hit it together this summer?

Sammy,
Where were you fishing the S?
Two months ago would have put it berfore the closing of the general trout season.
Spill the goods, below Tulloch, 2 Mile Bar, Kennedy Meadow... Where?
Sorry I missed the earlier post, I have not been keeping up with the board like I should have been.

If it was near Twain Harte, it could be out S. Fork rd. from town. That will get you to that portion of the middle fork. Or perhaps up river from Melones will get you near Twain Harte if you go far enough out Italian Bar rd. out of Columbia. I have done a lot of fishing in that area between Columbia and Twain Harte when I lived there for 26 years. Tulloch is about a 45 minute drive west down below the foothills from Twain Harte.

My mistake... and report from santa cruz 17 Years, 8 Months ago
|

My Bad. it was bearsdely. there is actually a cool campsite where i parked. I think it was called sand bar flats. Anyways it'd be a great place for some of us to meet up and do some fishing. I imagine it doesn't get all that crowded even on weekends due to the access being a looong dirt road.
I just finished fishing one of our local rivers here in santa cruz. There is a steelhead run on several local streams. We can only fish on weekends and wednesdays so it's definitely hit or miss for conditions. I fished alone for a the evening. Had a few tugs and caught a small one one an egg pattern, but not much else. Last week I fished in the same area with the same results. But i did see a bobcat which was pretty darn cool. These rivers are tough to fish, but I am determined to A: Catch my first steelhead... and B: catch one within a few miles of my house. One of these days!

Sammy,
I am sure you know this, but the San Lorenzo now has New Zealand Mud Snails. If that's where you were, be sure to disinfect thoroughly. We have more than enough of those darn things.
