Mokelumne question 17 Years ago

Man, I've been looking all over for fishing regs on the Moke. I've heard that the sierra streams downstream of 49 are open, but I can't find that in print anywhere. Anyone have something to point me to?

Bjorn,
The only thing I know for sure is that the Moke is open below Camanche Dam from Jan 1 until March 31, then again from Fourth Saturday in May until Oct 15 with no special regs about gear, but only one hatchery fish to keep. The closed periods are to protect spawning and reseases from the hatchery. The hatchery is right below the dam. It's a nice little fishery with some steelhead and resident rainbows and lots of smolts. It's also popular with bait and gear guys.
Don't know what's up from Hwy 49 down to the reservoir. I didn't see any reference to it either. I think it's pretty much all private land and inaccesible. Dustin is the Amador County guy, and he may know.
Cheers,
El Rey

Look under definitions and regs for "Sierra" and "Valley" districts. I think Hwy 49 is the boundary for Amador and Tuolumne counties. I believe the Sierra District falls under general season limits, and the Valley District is open year round, but has special regs during the "off" season.
I drifted from below Comanche to Mackville Rd. last weekend. Managed to land a nice 18" buck on a black wooly bugger, but that was it for me. My buddy landed five smaller fish, including one that looked like an Amador Cuttbow......
