Stream Suggestions 17 Years, 6 Months ago

I have been given a mid-week reprieve to head out for some fly fishing next Tuesday and Wednesday.
I am open to drive just about anywhere (coming from Bay Area) but wanted to see what the collective wisdom of these boards had to suggest in the way of best spots for the 1st week in October. I am not looking for "secret spots" just some good stream ideas.
I had a great trip in June to the Upper North Fork of the Feather and camped one night at Hole-in-the-Ground on Mill Creek. The glacial runoff milked up the water on the Mill though fish were still biting. I was thinking about doing a return trip to this campsite, hitting both streams again and hoping for better results on Mill Creek this time. Anyone have better suggestions or insights into these particular waters this time of year? I have only fished them in the summer months.
I appreciate any advice you can share.

You might consider some of the streams up by Downieville and Sierra City--North Fork Yuba, Haypress, Downie. Beautiful up there, nice small stream fishing.

I spoke with some folks and decided on the Pit River. This will be my first time fishing this river, though I have fished in the Burney area before.
Question, where is the best place to camp and access the Pit? In particular, I am looking at fishing the #3 stretch.
BTW, I love fishing the North Fork of the Yuba but the friend of mine accompanying me has always had poor luck there, hence the decision to look elsewhere. Thanks for the tips.

On the way to or back from the Pit you should hit the upper Sac. around the Cantara loop. Park there and walk down the river about 4-5 miles; stick to the RR tracks and you will make good time. The water gets good down there and you will have all day to fish up stream back to your car. This is a classic stretch of water and you will have good luck with small nymphs under an indicator during the day; when that slows use an attractor or match the hatch with an emerger or cripple. Some nice fish in this area although they are quite educated, it's best to be stealth on your approach and don't make too many casts. These fish are educated, but not to the extent of the Pit. You may have better luck down here. Nufsaid, Pit
