Hey Carpster,
Our local chapter of TU is also the fly club in Tucson; they are one and the same. The club's name is the Old Pueblo Trout Unlimited (Old Pueblo is the fond nomiker that locals have hung onto the town of Tucson).
The club sponsors outings, including many where they both fish and work on stream habitat, killing crayfish and improving Apache Trout streams. We've also got a species of trout in AZ and NM called the Gila Trout, which the feds have thoughtlessly downlisted from "endangered" to "threatened", and now they can be fished (C & R) in some areas. TU has really opposed this stupidity.
I haven't read this thread yet, so that's all I'll contribute, but since the TU chapter is also a club, by joining TU I'm automatically a club member, and receive info every month. Because Tucson is 85 miles from me, I basically participate in my local club.
Email me on the local steelie conditions. If you can convince me, I might bless you with my presence on your stream. Otherwise, I'm heading north a week from now.
