I fished the North Yuba near Ladies Canyon Creek on Saturday. We had a good eveing losing count of the numbers of fish. The size was nothing great but the company was good and the canyon was beautiful. I took all my fish on top using a #8 stimulator and a #16 buzz hackle.
Now for the ethic comments:
I am allowing that the idiot I am about to talk about may have been new to ffing and therefore simply ignorant, but here's what the dumb ass pulled!
We were planning to fish the narrow part of the canyon below Ladies Canyon Creek. We got in the water just below the cabins about a half mile below Ladies Canyon Creek, just below narrow part of the canyon. As we were working up the river this guy drops in about straight across from me. He then waves at me, like I would be glad to see him, and proceeds to practially run up to where the canyon narrows so he would get there first. To make matters worse this dirt bag had to know we were there and working up into the canyon because he had to have pulled up while we were entering the river.
What he did was see us in the spot he wanted to fish. Then pull up on the road a bit above of us and cut just in front of us on the river.
I am amazed how people will piss their morals down the drain to catch a few trout!
For you new comers out there, here is what he should have done.
1.Once he saw that some one was already in the stop he hoped to fish he should have just driven up the road a mile and selected another spot.
2. If he really wanted to fish that spot he should come up to us and asked if we were heading up stream. Once he found out that we were he should have told us "Godd Luck, I'll head further up the river"
Had he been a decent enough fellow to actually show some manners I probably would have asked him to join us, since I was impressed by his manners, and he would have had some advice on the North Yuba from someone who has been fishing it regularly for 37 years.
Most folks you meet stream side are good folks who want to be polite and give others some space. I hope this goofball figures this out some day.
I have learned much while fising near old timers who are more then willing to help you out if you are not a jerk!
I learned more in one evening from an oldtimer on the Upper Sac one day then I had after fishing the river 8 or 10 times. I had hiked down the river from Canterra about two miles. I was just about to head down to the river when I noticed two older guys were already in the water where I wanted to start. I walked down and asked them which way they were fishing and then adusted my plan by about a half a mile. At the end of the day, back at the parking lot they gave me a bunch of tips and a couple of flies.
I guess the moral of the story is this; you can be a jack ass and just piss people off or you can be polite and meet more people and make more friends that can really help you improve your fishing. It's up to you!
