Interesting thread! My view is do what feels good. If it is catching steelhead on dries, great, if its catching metal on nymphs bobicating, great, if the swing is your thang, great, if you like to use the Float rods, I guess that's OK too, just not my cup of tea. Every day I spend on a steelhead stream is a gift, no matter what pattern I have on the rod, every steelhead I catch is an even greater gift, no matter what technique. Is one method better than another?
Last year I fished extensively below one hole on the T where numerous folks lined up to throw roe, and gear and all sorts of other stuff. They had a great time to. I did have heartburn with the stringer of fish and empty beer cans left by the side of the river. Although I was fly fishing, I'm not sure that makes me better than the baitcasters, just different. There are lots of shades of steelhead fishing, and everyone has their own perspective. I think the most important part of our sport is taking care of the resource so we can keep fishing for these fantastic fish.
Just my 2 cents.

 Yawn rating system explained 17 Years, 6 Months ago

Here's how the Yawn Rating System works:
One Yawn - You're pitiful. No wit is used. Poor attempt at nastiness. Inaccuracies.
Two Yawns - A bit of wit. Maybe a chuckle from me. Naaasty.
Three Yawns - Genuinely funny. The nastiness factor is peaking. Hate and venom is drooling from the corners of your mouth as you write.
Four Yawns - Satan has nothing on you.

I hear ya, LH, but you've got to admit we had a fine time with Greg S. last year. You're right, but then only half right. When that fish leaps out of the water 5 times, maniacally spinning like a windmill, you tellin' me it's not like being on a heartbeat-raising drug?
Bobicating just lacks a certain finess, a certain art. I'll give ya that.
The fish I caught in Feb. Almost all on the swing. Definitely fun.

Why was my post "not intelligent"? Because I don't own or work for a fly-fishing relate business and try to make myself pass for some sort of self appointed fly-fishing celebrity? Or because I don't feel the need to post a "pat on the back" post to every single message here? My was a simple and honest question, you are the guys "steel here... metal there... headhunters...", for crying out loud do you even hear yourselves? You're using bobbers. Where is Uncle Jack when you need him! As a matter of fact... where is everyone?
But hey, wanna call a spade a spade: instead of hiding under posts that talk of how the environmental disaster is impacting "our sport", peace, love and freedom... you know what's ruining it in my opinion? A bunch of kids and jhonny-come-late that want to tell us "how it's done".
And by the way, I DO work in the business (as a matter of fact worked even in your store before you), I just don't promote it (quite poorly I might add) on this web site.
You're welcome.

Dude, unless you have long hair, a beard and rested on a cross for a while, you're in no position to tell anybody what life is about.

I'm glad I'm entertaining you!
Don't be such a tool!
To catch you, I just need a bare hook, and it doesn't even have to be shiny! Who needs to tie a FLY!
I didn't stop by at the Orvis booth at the Pleasanton Show because I was busy visiting with my real friends and there was lots of things I wanted to see or buy during my short amount of time out of the booth. I did go looking for Bjorn on Sunday morning but he was MIA at the FOR booth when I went by. I noticed you didn't stop by either. Good thing, my dog is a good judge of character, she might have bitten you. She loved Lee's granddaughter and Loretta though. I still would have let you have a brownie or a cookie, depending on the day, even though I baked them myself and didn't buy it from Orvis.
