1. Nobody called you an elitist (that I have seen) because you don't like to use indicators
Dusty,
This subject has come up several times over the years. You're pretty new here so maybe you haven't seen any of the other threads.
2. What supposed rules did I change? I have yet to see the holy text of fly fishing, and if it existed I probably wouldn't care to read it; it wouldn't change anything for me.
I never said I was talking to you. I was actually talking to Dries. It looks like I struck a nerve with you so I guess you feel that you fit the description of the type of angler I was talking about? There is no "holy text" of fly fishing. There you go with the attitude I was talking about.
3. Using the techniques you use doesn't make you an elitist, but claiming they are proper...well that might.
That fact that you don't know what's proper and what isn't proves my point. There should have to be a test that people take before they can fish with a fly rod. Like the driving test you take for a drivers licence. You shouldn't have to get 100% in order to pass, maybe only 90%. However, anyone that gets less then 100% should have to wear a dunce hat while they fish. You could even wear it to the side a little like Jack in the box.
4. Again what rules did we change? This fourth statement sure spawns a feeling of superiority
The rule about no bobbers! Aren't you paying attention? There's nothing wrong with using a bobber(I've even been known to do it)but you aren't flyfishing when you do it. You are float fishing. They have special rods and reels( and bobbers) for that that are more effective then trying to do it half ass and calling it flyfishing. I've even heard stories about the abortion of a rig AB uses. A bobber the size of a tennis ball with a lure under it. As far as my statement spawning "a feeling of superiority".... You don't seem to notice that you are using negative labels to describe me. You're suggesting that I am somehow lesser then you because I have a view of fly fishing that is different from yours. This suggests that you feel you are the superior "Enlightened One" that knows everything, and the rest of us are elitists or purists or some other negative label that makes YOU feel superior. I'm sure glad we have the mighty Dusty around to learn us all a thing or two.
P.S. I think you may have missed the fact that the Dries was just goofing around. The folks that know him goofed around right back. Go back and read the responses, I think you'll see what I mean. Lighten up dude!
