What happened? 17 Years, 8 Months ago
I have been away for a year and came back to this FF board. Things have really changed. Navigating this bulletin board is too difficult and way too much work.

This is a fly fishing board isn't it? Based on what I have seen on past posts, not much FF is being reported here.

This BB used to be a great BB w/ great FF info. and occassional FF reports. I hope you have not shot yourself in the foot w/ this new format.

Hey Jim,
There is still plenty of sharing going on, not to worry... with the recent poor weather and with a lot of streams closed there just aren't as many folks going fishing as there are in the middle of the summer.

The new format takes a little getting used to, but once you've mastered the two mouse clicks it takes to get where you want to be, you are all set.

There are still the same number of hooligans and guru's and just as much sage advice and BS as there has always been.

WTF are you talking about???? Every thread below this seems to be related to fishing in some way.

This BB used to be a great BB w/ great FF info. and occassional FF reports. I hope you have not shot yourself in the foot w/ this new format.

You're complaining about there not being any info here but you didn't post a report or anything yourself. If you aren't willing to contribute anything why do you expect others to? Is this site here to cater only to you? This is the same thing some of the bigger crybabies over on Keines board were whining about a little while ago. They were crying about how there aren't enough reports or info over here but they weren't contributing any info themselves. They come over here looking for free info, give nothing in return, and then go back to Keines board and talk s#!t about how there's no info over here. You guys are something else!

Well, while you were away... 17 Years, 8 Months ago
a few things have changed.

I would admit that you do have to get used to the layout of the new board. Sheesh, I'm still getting used to it.

Stick around. Your familiarity with the site will only improve with time.

JBR,

This type of negative response is exactly what I am talking about. JBR, why are you so quick to jump to conclusions? You do not know me or my situation. You sound like a guy that looks at everything w/ the 'cup half empty' philosophy. Unfortunately the world is filled w/ too many myopic 'think small' people that are living for the weekend (pleasure) and forget about everything else. The typical American, self-absorbed and selfish. Maybe we, myself included, see too much of the have or have nots that is pervasive throughout our culture. In our rush to get to become one of the 'haves' we forget about treating people w/ compassion and respect.

Try to think more positive and see 'the cup half full' and good things will happen.

I will get off the soap box now.

Here's to you Jim. May the winds be fair, your casts perfect, and the fish really really dumb. My kind of day. UC

Some people look at the glass as half full, some see it half empty, but the engineer sees the glass as the wrong size... Myself, I tend to forget where I put the glass until my wife says "is this your glass just sitting here? Why can't you put it in the dishwasher?" and then she pours it out before I can see if it was half full or half empty.

Hmmmm. You berate JBR for being negative, yet you offered nothing positive and lots of negatives in your first post. I respectfully suggest you take your advice to "try to think more positive and see 'the cup half full' and good things will happen" in regards to this new format and try to make the NCFFB more of the type of BB you seem to want. You can ask fly fishing questions, post fly fishing suggestions or tips, or make a post on a fly fishing issue that is important to you. Or, you can submit an article on any fishing subject you would like for the front page.

If you have constructive criticism of the current format, we are always ready to listen and try to implement changes to make it easier for folks. However, just complaining about it doesn't do much good, and it makes those who have worked very hard to keep this bulletin board going (free of charge and advertisements) feel like they have wasted their efforts.

I am looking forward to your future contributions.

She's pretty much hit the nail on the head there.

Maybe you're just having a bad day... it happens... and it is never fun when someone jumps all over you, as happened... but in this case, I would have shown two yellow cards (yes, I actually enjoy watching soccer, the world's game).

So... take a breather... find your center or zen or whatever and then try again.

The only constant is change... the old format was getting a bit stale and the new format offers a bit more in terms of flexibility, although it certainly is not what folks were used to.

I am an advocate of KISS. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Being an analytical type myself, I am curious what the stats are re. viewers, posts etc. before and after the new BB format.
Like Detective Friday always said on the TV show Dragnet, 'Just the facts, maam, just the facts'. I am curious what the numbers will reveal.

Enough w/ this idle chatter, its time for me to head out the door to cast a line, at the local duck pond, to see if any of those cyprinids of porcine proportions are up shallow on this fine warm spring day. Never underestimate the lowly carp for this species has managed to thrive quite well among us humans...no? It is an adversary worthy of the fly angling pursuit, indeed.

Re:What happened? 17 Years, 8 Months ago
The facts are there are far more possibilities with this new format than there were with the old. Instead of looking to the past and demanding numbers, how about working towards the future? You could post a report of your cyprinid adventure this afternoon and start making the board what you want it to be.

Again, if you have any specific constructive criticism or ideas to improve the NCFFB and its navigability, we would more than happy to hear your ideas. If your only idea is that the NCFFB go back to what it was, we will weigh that against those who say they prefer this new format. We are never going to make everyone happy, but we want the NCFFB to continue to grow, and to grow in new and exciting ways.

This type of negative response is exactly what I am talking about.

Really? Your first post made no mention of negative responses, only that there isn't much fly fishing being reported here.

JBR, why are you so quick to jump to conclusions? You do not know me or my situation.

Huh? What conclusions about you did I jump to? I didn't realize that I had concluded anything.

You sound like a guy that looks at everything w/ the 'cup half empty' philosophy.

You're kidding right? You are the one that is looking at the cup as half empty. The tone of your first post was very pessimistic.

Try to think more positive and see 'the cup half full' and good things will happen.

Keep that in mind and go back and read you first post.
