"Sideways" is a great movie!

As to Merlot, there was an article on that beverage in the wine section of a monthly magazine I get.

They mentioned "Sideways" and slammed Merlot like there was no tomorrow. It was really humorous. Then they actually recommended 3 in different price ranges that bucked the trend of that, how can I say this tactfully...nun's piss (a term we usually reserve for weak, girlie beers).

Here's the only one I've tried, after losing the article: Chateau Ste. Michelle, 2003

It ain't Pinot Noir and it ain't Zinfandel but it's absolutely drinkable. Chase it down with anything by Bartles & James.

What the heck kinda beer is a pinot and a merlot? Is that some kinda French beer or something? They make beer in France? Rafanelli? That sounds EYEtalian. I never had EYEtalian beer. Moscato sounds like it might be from Mexico.... Or maybe South America... Is that even beer? That's not that regurgitated fruit spit stuff the indians make down there in South Ameriica is it?!? It doesn't sound to me like you guys know very much about beer. What ever happened to folks drinkin' good beers like Heiney or Grolsh or Steinlager? And lets not forget Guinness! Them Irish know how to make beer with some flavor! French and EYEtalian beer? What the heck kinda party is this anyway??

For you a 5 gallon keg 17 Years, 9 Months ago
...as long as it's not Corona! (that might be acceptable in the summer). Bring your favorite cup and I'll help you work on the keg. You can tell me how much you hate the new board software - perhaps I'll even listen.

At least with the stuff that comes in a keg... 17 Years, 9 Months ago
...real steelhead fishermen don't have to crook their itty-bitty pinky when they hold the can or bottle and I ain't never seen no beer drinkers discussing the oakyness of a cold one or trying to figure out whether it's a whine spectator rating of 89 or 90...sheesh, gimme a tin cup full of Scotch...and as long as it's at least 12 years old...it will do...single malt, blended or even mixed with a splash of water...no ice though...that stuff will kill you.

Looks like any mention of an "8 wt", has completely slid off the radar screen, now that there's spirits to discuss.

Sideways is my all time favorite. I own the movie and an autographed copy of the book, with a reference to Chris Hanford's new winery, Alma Rosa. I've deconstructed every scene, with and without Pinot. And I've personally been to every film locale in the flick, making a few side stories, of my own.

In any case, real men DO drink wine...the good stuff...and know where it comes from.

Speaking of which, why are there only chicks, signed up, for this ball?

Got it mostly right....come a little higher to Mendocino County for some exquisite reds.........

Mendo has awesome reds. It's got some great gewurtztraminers, coming out of there, too.

Have you run into Coro wines, yet? All Mendo-farmed zin-based blends. Mmmmm.....

How provincial! 17 Years, 9 Months ago
I bet when no one is looking, you sneek indicators onto your spey lines! You probably also put pieces of nightcrawlers on your steelie flies!!

(Gotta agree with you about the Guinness. Don't short change EYEtalian or even Chinese beer, you hillbilly.)

BTW, when you were in Forks, did you finally learn how to use one?

Sand, Steel, and Oysters - a mini-bash to cure the mid-winter blahs 17 Years, 9 Months ago
Wow! Sounds more like as wine tasting bash than a fishout...
The Navarro is just coming into shape as I type this, but no extreme fishing for me just yet. Knee Surgery scheduled for nexy week.
Tore miniscus on the right knee while trying to get out of a bear dig I stepped in on the Karluk. But that's a WHOLE 'nuther story.
That I promise to post before winters done...
Locally, the Feather SUCKED on the opener up in town, few fish caught by about 60 anglers from the bicycle bridge down to the Chinese Temple. Hatchery has had less than 200 steel head return this season. Management!
The board seems so mellow these days. FRG

And would that be, so...wrong?

What's a lil sour grapes, amongst friends?

Come on up. If you can't get out just now, you can play pinball, and tend the reds, while they decant!
