Yeah that actually made front page news in our local paper. So needless to say I am all over it. Unfortunately I've talked to several other fisherman out at the bars and what not who have been fishing and had no idea. Santa Cruz really needs to post some signage at the heavily fished spots. With the mud snails, homeless crack heads and syringes all over this river, you really gotta watch yourself.

Sammy,

sounds like a great place to park your car.

YOUR car, not mine.....

hey sammy....want to confirm n.z. snails 17 Years, 8 Months ago
Sammy>>this is the first i've heard of those snails on the stan, anywhere. u sure you read a sign that said it was infested? or, was it a caution sign??? I've seen lots of those signs around at different access points on rivers. what's the deal??? Did you disinfect your gear, or what??? did you find the snails?? what gives? I've only heard of them on the Moke and Calaveras around here locally. mother lode /west slopes sierra and Valley dist. would like to know for sure. have been checking dfg website and they don't list it as infested.

i actually did mention it in my initial post. now... I suppose it could have just been a caution sign. It's been several months now so i can't remember for sure. I'll ask the folks i went with and get back to you. But as we were discussing, there are definitely snails in the san lorenzo now. (don't want to confuse the issue)

thanks for the San Lorenzo info. I was starting to wonder as to which river we were talking about. I just wanted to clear up the Stanislaus status. Anglers need to try and slow down the infestation any way we can. This board needs a N.Z.M.S. alert section with the latest, reliable info available. I agree, and I think this is a terrific idea. Does anyone have ideas for a format for a NZMS alert section and where we can get the latest, reliable information? I think we should also include wader/gear disinfection information as well.

Whatever format we decide on, dawn, if you guys could do some sort of opt in email that we could receive with any new information, that would be helpful.

nzms...my observation 17 Years, 8 Months ago
It would be great to get some reliable, current info. the maps that the links on the DFG web site take you to, were made in 2005. In Montana! I would think California could make their own maps that are kept current. The ones I saw don't show any infestations at Shasta, San Lorenzo, Moke, Calaveras, or the American. Pretty out of date. Why should anglers care when the State apparently doesn't care enough to keep an updated map?

NZMS Distribution Map 17 Years, 8 Months ago
CURRENT NZMS DISTRIBUTION MAP

When you go to this link, scroll down and select California (either dot or HUC, it doesn't matter). It will take a moment for the site to collate the latest data and generate a map. Click into the dots or Hydrologic Units (HUC) for detailed location information.

If the URL tag doesn't work (the board wants to truncate the link) just go here:
http://www...ollusca/nzms/status.html
