The Fly Fishing Shop Newsletter 14 Years, 3 Months ago
I just read The Fly Fishing Shops weekly newsletter which had photos from the Fly Fishing Expo in Albany, Oregon this past weekend. Charlie S. is that your photo?

a) that's Charlie,
and
b) notice that he has a physical defect that forces him to tie them #32 !@#$%^&* flies without using eyeglasses...it ain't natural...what bargin did he make with whom to be able to see to tie flies that small? (is there something Faustian going on here?)

Paul,

I am not sure if I can see a size 32 with glasses so I refrained from commenting on that aspect of the photo...:

I have a half dozen of his #32 flies...I carry them all the time and display them to folks on the stream when asked what I'm using to catch fish...just to see the expression on their faces.

Yep, that was me...Mark had a slow day so he had to take my photo...

I was tying flies (extended body mayflys) that will be sent, along with a couple of dozen others, back East for a Gathering Of The Clan for an auction that will benefit the Project Healing Waters.

As a side note, the show I was tying at is held yearly up in Oregon and if you are ever in the area it is a fantastic opportunity to see some really talented tyers ply their trade/hobby.

I don't have any of Charlie's #32s, so when folks get uppity about small flies, I tell them about Charlie's 32s and show them my bare hand, and tell them there are three flies in the palm.

they are always very impressed.

I also have a size 2 Yellow Humpy that I tie on in parking lots (like at Carbon Bridge on Hat) just to keep my leader straight as I walk to the stream...that gets a lot of looks too.
