The Northern California Fly Fishing Board

Heading up to the Deschutes from 9/19 to 9/25 for some long overdue fishing. Its been an eventful and sometimes trying year, so far, and I am really looking forward to this trip.
Am planning on trying for steelies the first couple of days way down low, then heading upstream towards Maupin for a few days to look for more steelies and some redsides, if the steelhead water is too crowded.
Would appreciate tips or info from anyone who's fished the river before.

I haven't fished the Deschutes but I-Fish under the Flyfishing topic usually has some current reports.

Camp at Beavertail on the road to Macks. Thats the best campground. Fish the Island below the campground.There were some big grass fires in the area this summer
so be on the lookout for snakes closer to the river.
