Thanks michaelnel 14 Years, 10 Months ago
I posted a couple of days ago on Kiene's board about anchoring a pontoon boat. Thanks for your replies. I don't post here as much as I used to mainly because I haven't had much to post in the last couple of years. While I never made it to any of the bashes I have met and fished with people from this board. I live in a small Nor-Cal town that's over 1 hour from any fly fishing club or flyshop. Combine that with an unusual work schedule and I end up fishing by myself alot. The times I have fished with board members have all been great. I've been shown new trout waters, and put onto steelhead. I do plan on fishing Baum this fall/winter. When I do I'll post here and at Kiene's to see if anyone's interested in meeting up. I usually fish weekdays. Did I mention that I tie flies? Mike Borba

Re:Does anyone know 14 Years, 10 Months ago
Mike, a few thoughts. Yes, there was a time when this board was a hell of a lot more active, and yes, there was some rancor between some members. And it got pretty nasty at times, but a lot of the time it was just meant to be provocative for a laugh, and folks generally understood that. It is damn quiet on this board now, and it's a shame. If it's true that there are folks out there reading maybe they should be posting, especially if they have something to say or something to ask about California fly fishing. Just as Carpy responded to you, there are always people on this board who are willing to share what they know. So I'd just say to you or anyone who is reading and not engaging on the board, hey--the floor is open. If you heard bad things about how the board used to be clearly there's little of that going on now. As to California fly fishing vs. any other type of reports, I think the Northern California referred in some part to the fact that folks on the board were pretty much from Northern California. There was always a place for reports about fishing anywhere and everywhere. If you fly fish chances are you're curious about Montana or New Mexico or New Zealand, as well as more local spots.

I'm glad you posted, hope you do more.

Hidden Valley Lake. (No we don't make salad dressing here). There's a 100 acre lake in our community, with bass. I like the small town life, but like everthing else it has its drawbacks. Probably a lot fewer than most places. Mike

Michael, Andrew, Carpy, UC et al- my two jiao's ( about .03 cents US) chinese money- I've learned what all their money is since they own us- lock, stock and barrell

I really think the content and people of the board aren't/weren't the problem with the demise, it is the "mechanics" of this clunky board format and the pathetic slowness. While I love to kill a whole evening reading posts about fishing, beer drinking, leaders, Slofly's ugly girlfriend Sully,... I would rather read it in 200 posts rather than sitting and waiting for 3 slow ass threads to open up, and then I have to individually open each and every reply, waiting 15-20 seconds for each one. Why have a 15Mbps dsl connection when the slowest part of the website is on the other end? Where are the servers for the board, Outer friggin Mongolia? or is it the spyware the Obama administration put in place to keep an evil eye on us Tea Party guys that is slowing the world down? Everyone would have still came here and argued, laughed and cried if it didn't take longer to open three thread than to get totally shitface and fall asleep in the chair in front of the computer ( don't tell me none of you haven't dozed off waiting for a page to open, either)

There is free forum software that runs much faster and threads the responses.

BTW- my little brother is whacking the tar out of the WILD STEELHEAD up on the Olympic Peninsula, and it is going to be a crazy year up on the Deschutes/Clearwater/Grande Ronde. It is ROADTRIP TIME.

Hidden Valley Lake- where there are more deer than dogs. ( I have never seen so many deer and turkeys in one place in my life.)

How many sets of brakes do you go thru in a year living there? Do you work up there or do you commute? One of my favorite deli's is right there in Middletown, best turkey and cranberry sandwiches anywhere.

A true trout bum is one who has commitments and responsibilities but won't give in. He doesn't run away to escape them, he just ignores them and goes fishing.......

Re:Does anyone know 14 Years, 10 Months ago
thanks Shawn, that helped a little bit. Still doesn't fix the slow part. I;ve tried it on

Nice bass in your profile pic! Kayaks are the best way to get around and fish. I have two, a OK Trident 15 and a Hobie Pro Angler.( I'm fat and my dogs like to ride on back, I need more flotation than your Escape ) I was talking to UC earlier in the week, we should all get together and have a Striper fish-out on Lake Mendocino this fall. Ed K has a kayak too. With five or ten kayak anglers, we could herd the Stripers toward a cove and beat on them.

Troutnut,

Ya know, that 'slow' problem stopped being a problem for ma more than a year ago. I have Comcast Broadband which is a little faster tahn DSL, but this board downloads as fast aa ANy of the boards I frequent, including others where I see you, and the old VFS [which is just sterile] and the GOTC Flyanglers board.

I'll have to find it, but there are tools that will tell you what your download speed is. You may have a gripe with your provider. ANY board with decent graphics is slow on dial up but on your DSL, it ought to load pretty fast.

See you soon!

Try http://www.speedtest.net/ ignore the scan suggestion. I got 3.6 mbps download, and 2.3 up.

One speed measurement site is http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

My comcast connection shows:

19.81 Mbps downloading (!!!!!!)
and
2.56 Mbps uploading

Wow... that's FAST!

I don't see a download speed problem here, but I do see a slow response issue, like the webserver hosting this site is on an overloaded shared host. That's not at all uncommon.

BTW, the board took about 20 seconds to post that reply. Not a bandwidth issue, but a slow server issue.
