long silence 15 Years ago
|
|
Hi, everyone I used to know. I haven't tapped into this forum in so long that my original name of just Peter had gone off the radar screen, I guess. Had a quick email from Carpy sometime back suggesting I climb back aboard, so here I am.
Looking at the photo of the bash, it appears that almost everyone in CA, fisher or no, showed up for it. Must have been a bash indeed.
And so sorry to hear about Dave Brown. I never knew him well, but he was such a gentleman.
Since I last posted we sold the property with the vineyard on it and moved 250 yards up the hill to build and move into a new house, one that had been circulating in my wife's system for years. Here was her opportunity to get it out into the open, and she did a superb design.
I also hung up my professional forester's license, and am now fully retired. You'd think I'd be doing a lot of fishing, but I just haven't got around to it. When you hit 86 you suddenly find that currents are stronger, rocks bigger, slipperier, and all too willing to trip you up.
The pond is still there for children - even those big but child-like - and I have permission to let people go after the bluegill and bass if they want. Just give me a heads up. I guess JET and Joey have finally outgrown the place they fished so avidly for so many seasons.

Peter!
So good to hear from you. I have been wondering what you were up to. I knew the new house was in the offing from the last time we talked. Bet that was a big project and feels good to have completed.
I am not sure what to think of the Board anymore. So many good people have gone off the radar screen. I miss the Board of old. But time marches on.
Not sure when I talked to you last, but I retired from the Forest Service three years ago. Now work part time for the local publishing company taking care of their web sites. Actually redesigned and re-built both of them. (Plumasnews.com and Lassennews.com) Still learning an entirely new trade. Good fun and it still leaves plenty of time for more important things like wine making, gardening, cooking and oh yes....fishing!
I hope you and Sarah are both very well,
Michael

Hey Peter,
Great to see you post! Life moves on and the Board moves with it, I guess. Keep in touch, and float tubes/kickboats are an old guys friend.

Thanks everyone.
Michael the Featherfisher I sent you a long grateful email reply to an address so old that of course it got kicked back at me. I'll delve into the mysteries of PMing that message, but don't count on my being very successful
Carpy and ed, maybe the float tube is the way to go. but I remember up at Bidwell with Ukiah Charlie and Niko the Frenchman going out in a pretty stiff breeze and the calves of both legs cramping up. And that was what, eight or nine years ago? Guess I'llhave to get a rowing tube, maybe wiht an electric motor.
And UC, grateful though I may be for that nice complioment, if I appear to be a hero type all I can say is, you set your sights pretty low, don't you?
Cheers everyone!

Cheers back at ya!
And I agree with Charlie....your continued pursuit of your profession, your friends, and your passions (wine, fishing, and adventure in general) well past the point where lesser folks retire to the porch rocking chair have been an inspiration to many of us. Important stuff for me to emulate as I enter my retirement phase. Thank you. (And Charlie sure ain't no slacker in that regard either!)

Hey Peter,
I'm glad to see you are doing well. We have been talking about heading your way for a visit. Since we discovered a local public pond and trained most of Joey's friends in the art of angling we have not made the trip up the hill. I'm sure I have another bottle of wine with your name on it around here gathering dust. Joey and I just returned from Utah/Montana and the little bugger caught a 28" brown in the same section where Bob Jacklin caught his trophy. We released ours and the thought of killing it never crossed our minds. I'm working on a report but have been dragging my feet. I'll try and stop by for a cold one and some tall tales.
Regards,
Jet

Hey JET & Joey, good to hear from you. The pond is still there but rapidly filling in with cat tails. They even surround the dock now. Needs a good haircut, it does.
Look forward to seeing you guys one of these days.
