New Mexico Trout? 14 Years, 11 Months ago
My wife and I will be attending a conference in Santa Fe in mid October. Would like to spend some time fishing local trout streams, but we've never been there before.

Any info would be appreciated. Fly shops, websites, guides, etc.? I'll do some google research myself, but first-hand experience is most valuable and helpful.

Thanks in advance.

El Rey/Harlan

There is an Internet Show, called Fly Fishing-Internet Radio that is broadcast every few weeks. Last month they had a show on Northern New Mexico with a guide named Doc Thompson that had some interesting information on three of the rivers including access. If you goggle the above that show is in the archives. Hope this helps.

Lots of great small streams--Pecos River to the East, Jemez and other streams to the West, head up towards Taos and there's the Cimarron, Rio Hondo, Rio Costilla up by the Colorado border. And the Rio Grande and Red River up that way as well. I love fishing a 2-wt in New Mexico.

Don't have much first hand info other than I may be living there shortly. Andrew named many of the rivers. Here's a link for a fly club that has some local info http://www...xicotrout.org/index.html

Thanks everyone for the good info and contacts, both on the Board and by email. I think we'll have no trouble finding places to fish, and there seem to be a few Fly Shops in town for up-to-date news.

Meanwhile, the high country here in NorCal beckons.

Cheers,
Harlan

I have a friend who fishes that area frequently and just purchased a home on the Pecos River near the town of Pecos. He recommends High Desert Anglers, in Santa Fe. I plan to get out that way soon to get out of the heat and humidity here in Southeast Texas…….Redfisher
