Two Patterns for the Mother's Day Hatch...L "O" 15 Years, 3 Months ago
From Sierra Drifters...

"The Lower Owens River has had a substantial flow reduction as of 3-7. The LADWP is reporting that some towers suspending some major power lines have been damaged and that flows will remain around the 250cfs release rate for however long it takes to repair the lines. Flows will then be increased after the repairs once again. This rare situation is giving you a window of opportunity to fish the LO at excellent flows in the near future.

With the decrease in flows some sections of the river have once again been kicking out some good numbers. At 250cfs wading is once again possible in the upper sections and ideal for drifting the entire river."

So...

I was on the Lower Owens 3/21 and flows were quite high, very limited wadeing. Locals were saying they'd just kicked the flows up. In fact I found flow quite high, I'd say at runnoff levels, in the upper Owens, and even in the gorge......they still had 18" of snow on the upper making the walking tough.....and long as you could 4 wheel in too far either.

All that said I had a lousy day on the upper, a kind of moderate day in the gorge, and a great day on the lower due to an incredible Caddis hatch that apparently went on for nearly a day......or longer. While finding fish in the lower is generally tough (for me anyway) in high water, and always sub-surface, this hatch had them looking and feeding up and it went on and on.
