Fished the east walker today and yesterday. (will fish tomorrow too) it's been cold in the mornings, but tends to warm up probably a little over 40 both days. The fishing has been tough for me. I've been nymphing a tandem rig under an indicator for the majority of the time. Not one fish. There was a nice baetis hatch each afternoon, and today the midges seemed to hatch every hour or so.
Only luck has come from fishing a bwo dry, with a midge or flahback dropper. Tomorrow I probably won't bother with the indicator/nymph rig. Other folks on the river also mentioned having no success nymphing. Not sure why this is, although I'd guess it's the fisherman and not the fish.
The fish spook easily and require a pretty stealthy approach if you want any chance of hooking one. Unfortunately most of the fish seem to be in the slow seams and deep pools, giving them plenty of time to see my line and fake fly. Even w/ 7x on it's hard to generate a strike. The water is low and slow, but slightly murky/coffee colored. From my experience here that is the typical color of the water flowing out of the dam.
Plenty of snow on the ground and more on the way. Snowed a bit today too. I'm not having the success I was hoping for but a few fish to hand (and just being able to fish) make the trip worth it. If tomorrow is more successful I'll post some more info.
On another note, if anyone reads this tonight that can offer some advice for a more successful day tomorrow, please post.
