In our sierras, how cold do you think is too cold for a baetis hatch to happen?

Once the water freezes it becomes too cold for baetis to hatch. Seriously though, they come off during the warmest part of the day when it's really cold.

I honestly don't know the actual temp, but I have seen 'em hatching when it's been pretty cold and wet. However, the question might be: is it too cold for the trout to be on the bite? I've seen some nice baetis hatches, but no trout on them.

If it's too cold for the fish to expend the necessary energy to take adults that you see on the surface, I've been successful with the "beat them on the noggin tactic" with a Bead-n-Thread Baetis nymph...dead drifted or raked.

we're heading up to the EW. looks like it'll be in the mid thirties with some light snow. hope it's not too cold for the fish though
