Interesting! I went to the DFG website and it still says that you have to wear it visibly and above your waist, but the link that is provided does say that you can buy fishing licenses online now, but they MAIL annual ones to you within ten days, no printed copies, except for short-term licenses. Perhaps the new regs will come out in the new booklet in a few months.
I wonder how long it's going to take before CA has computerized fishing license system like Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and Utah. It's REAL easy to get your license in those states, from my experience.
Thanks for passing that along.
Cheers!

The Q&A section says that the "display your license" rule is ended as of 1 March 2010, the first day the new regs go into effect.
I am going to call DF&G and ask on Monday. I'll post.

It's March 1, 2010.
The regulation repealing the need to display your license while fishing will not go into effect before March 1, 2010, the first day the general inland regulations start.

Good to know. I guess I should scan for a few more details in the future. All the same, you can't exactly say that government documents are typically known for their clarity or entertainment value.
Cheers!

Thanks AbelBoy, regardless of the statements to the contrary from non-residents, your information appears to be consistent with the stuff on the "official" DFG site...

Good news, Paul. There's a slight possibility that I'll be moving to NorCal, and we'll be neighbors. I'll try to keep my horse from eating your grass...or is your lawn cropped by pet sheep?
All in good fun.
