Cold Day Fishing Report 15 Years, 6 Months ago

Hit one of my happy spots today. Cold, with patchy snow on the ground. Elk tracks all over during the short walk into the river. Fish up on top as soon as I got to my favorite runs. Took me WAY too long to tie on a size 20 midge pattern....note to self....put reading glasses in vest. Rolled a fish and had a momentary pulse on the line on one of my first few casts. Shifted to nymphs and let a them trickle under the log. No joy. So finally, I broke down and went to buggers. Caught 7-8 rainbows and brookies to about 16". Twas cold walking off the river this evening. 39 degrees felt much colder. Good excuse for a swig of Glen Livet. I could feel the warmth all the way from my tongue down to my toes. Geez, what was I thinking wading in 42 degree water while it was raining with snow about. Wintertime fishing.....gotta love it!

After sitting around on my @$$ too much, plus doing chores around the house, your day of cold fishing sounds like absolute paradise!
Cheers!

Sounds great! Maybe I'll try and little White Mountain (AZ) fishin' in January. Gotta love the feeling of truly being "alone" out there when most are warm and at home watching TV.

A steelhead fly fisherman needs two qualities:
A strong casting arm and a room temperature IQ.
