Well, the rod has changed. I received the LL Bean Rod Friday and it looks great. Problem though, #3 from the top rod piece would not fit into #4. The rest went in as smooth as butter. Manufacturing defect? LL Bean was ready to send quick a replacement but I saw as a sign something new arriving DOA and I just asked for my money back. So, rod is heading home to LL Bean. I really liked all about it. The reel was reel (no pun intended) slick but I just don't want to take any more chances.
So, I visited my local Nevada City Anglers again and today purchased a Redington setup from Tony. I saw just last night for 2010 they have a real nice 6 piece 3 wt Trout Classic rod that jumped at me. The brochure I had picked up at 1st from NCA did not show this rod so that is why I moved on. I wanted a 6 to 8 piece. Now, I am happy to see this new 6 piece and it is exactly what I need. Great warranty, I was able to buy local, and I am tickled pink. Just have to wait until the rod arrives though as it was not in his stock so he will order Monday.
Anyway, so it looks like Redington is my 1st setup.
Anyone else use this brand?

Well, I pulled the trigger on an LL Bean 8 Piece setup. I looked at all sorts of brands, models, you name it. I looked local, not so local, mail order. In the end, the LL Bean jumped out at me. The few reviews on the site were all good and it seems like a decent setup. But what do I know <grin>. In time, I will learn if this setup is right for me.
This is what I purchased.

I plan on taking some classes and learning some basics first. Also have a Cabelas DVD I picked up on Flyfishing and will see if that can help but I feel some local hands on classes will do well. In fact, they have some classes also where they take you out where you can actually fish so I plan on taking those for sure. Next year though as the local place have done their last class for 2009 and will start up again January.
Plus I need to get a fishing license so I will do that Jan 1 so I get a full year of use. 8-)
