The Northern California Fly Fishing Board

Hi, just joined the forum today. I live in Grass Valley, California. I am 43 and have decided to start Fly Fishing. Last time I did any fishing was in the 1970s when I was a kid so many years later I have picked up the Fly Fishing Bug and starting to read, picked up a casting DVD, and scoping out my 1st gear.

At this point I am looking for a fairly compact rod so I can pack with me. So many brands and so many options. Like eye candy. Wife and I have now been to Cabelas twice in Reno in the last couple months along with Scheels up there in Reno also. Also have been shopping at local stores here in the Sacramento area and one up here in my town. Even did Orvis over in Roseville.

Anyway, been scoping out 6 to 7 piece rods. Anyone here use a very compact rod? I even saw LL Bean has a 8 piece rod. I know casting can be a pain the more pieces you get but curious if anyone here has success with ultra small travel rods?
