Deer Creek Update 16 Years, 7 Months ago
I blew my 2 hour limit all to heck today, but I did see a lot of country.

First up 70 to Portola. North Fork Feather looked great.
then Loyalton to Janesville, no water to speak up, but lots of reaaly cool cars headed to Reno for Hot August Nights,

Then on to Susanville and down to Chester and Hwy 32 thru Deer Creek Canyon. Last year's fire is hardly noticable, just a few brown trees, but lots of new growth. The creek looked perfect for fishing.

Next time I might even stop

Geez...all that good water passed, and no fishing report??

Okay, I'm not much better...drove to Carson Pass last Saturday, caught a
dozen miniature, tiny, dinky, puny brook trout. Then drove home about an
hour after catching the miniature, tiny, dinky, puny brook trout.

It was just outside your 2 hr limit Carpy and 236 miles roundtrip

And didn't wet a line?

That must have been a pretty drive. Did you get her outta 4th gear?

Good to hear about the fire recovery, Mother Nature is pretty good about taking care of herself.

Just left Reno, hot rods everywhere. If you don't have a Hot August Nights T-shirt, you ain't squat! Couldn't find one myself.

What, you didn't want to stick around Reno and fight traffic on Hwy
80 on Sunday? A buddy of mine got caught in that Sunday traffic last
year...said it was BRUTAL. No Truckee river fishing JGB?

Okay, fishing report:

Just got back from float tubing a small lake up in the Grouse Ridge area.
Hiked in with my backpack, waders, tube etc. I was hoping the lake
was still good considering the cooler weather we have had the last week.
As I walked in above the lake, I stopped to see if there were any risers.
Oh ya!!

Rigged up my 2wt and fished for several hours. Stopped counting after 20 fish.
Nothing huge...largest was an 11" brookie...several 10" rainbows to hand
as well. There must have been something going on under the water I couldn't
see because the entire time I was there, the fish were rocketing completely
out of the water to attack something. No hatch though, other than the
damselflies. Fish weren't picky...damsel dries, small princes and tiny wooly
buggers all got plenty of strikes.

Man I love fly fishing
