Any info on San Joaquin river? 16 Years, 8 Months ago
I'm meeting friends at Bass Lake and have never been in the area. I want to sneak away and fish the San Joaquin river....anywhere below Mammoth Pool Reservoir. Has anyone been around there? Is it worth it? I appreciate any info.

I fished the SJ below the pool at least once a year (and sometimes 3 0r 4 times) for over 50 years starting in 1955. My last time down that canyon was 4 year ago. I found plenty of trout. You need to do at least a 2 day backpack to do it justice anywhere in that drainage. Had to cover a lot of ground to get them. It was fun...

The old Frenchman trail is poorly maintained if you can find it...
