Bjorn,
Torn up a bit by the MJ thing too, but time will heal and we'll get back to fly fishing as a focus.
OK, enough of that.
There is a good fly shop in Sisters that will have up to the minute info......the Fly Fisher's Place. Here's a link to their site:
http://www.flyfishersplace.com/
They list several of their local waters on the site, and I'm sure they can make some good recommendations. But here's a few suggestions, also, and all within a hour or less of Sisters.
The Metolious......Beautiful, and may have golden stones going. These big bugs make the river less technical due to the fact that big trout can't pass up a big meal! 1:00 - 4:00 on wam sunny days.
The Deschutes, should have caddis, PMD's. Great pontoon float from Warm Springs to Trout Creek.....need a shuttle.
The Crooked, not at all technical, and a lot of willing fish on dry flies. Most 8-14 inches. A few bigger. Should be caddis and PMD's going. An hourish drive.
The Cascade Lakes Loop.....Hosmer Lake, Lava Lakes, Sparks Lake, Elk Lake, and purty to boot. Damsels and Callibaetis. The Little Deschutes below Lava, some slow technical water here, but if you catch an overcast day, worth some time. Need I say more? An hourish drive.
A bit farther on the Cascade Lakes Loop, Crane Prairie (hire a guide, tough water to learn quick), Davis for Black Bass (fun!) Hour and 20+ minute drive.
East Lake - myself and a friend caught about 50 to 18 inches in several hours on Chronomids 3 weeks ago. Callibaetis and Damsels should be popping by now.
Fall River near Sunriver - PMD's should be going. Technical and tough. Nice river. Email for specifics.
Alder Creek Ranch - Pay for Play near Sisters
Suttle Lake just West of Sisters - Has some big browns, although I have not fished it.
Don't know if that helps, but if you get bored with that selection, let me know and I'll send a few more.
