Mormon Emigrant Trail? 16 Years, 10 Months ago
Is it open? Can't find a listing on Caltrans site. Also, any word on the little road into Woods Lake?

Thanks in advance.

El Rey

You can goto this page:
http://www.../r5/eldorado/conditions/
Usually the National Forest will provide info. I know there is nothing there now. You can also contact them. Use the link that I provided for you.

Tight lines!!!

Thanks robdog. I guess I'll just have to wait for the thaw, or call for updates.

El Rey,

I took a drive up and over the hill today to do some recon for you. MET is clsoed at the snow park up on top. There was at least 3 feet of snow still on the road. Ellis Rd had 4-5 feet at the top. Silver, Caples and Red Lakes are all still frozen over. The signs at the snow park said that they do not plow MET until July.

Best of Luck,

Dustin

Robdog,

I am not familiar with Silver Fork Rd. and Google Maps isn't coming up with it anywhere near Silver Lake. Is it east or west of Silver Lake? The campgrounds east of the lake were all still closed. I did not check Kit Carson (east side of Silver) or Plasse Roads (west side of Silver).

Silver Fork Rd runs from Hwy 50 & ends at Mormon Emigrant trail, about 5 miles from Hwy 88. I would say it's east of Mormon Emigrant trail. You access this road from Kyburz.

I did not access the area via Highway 50, I went up and over 88 to 89 then over Luther Pass. That was why i could not remember Silver Fork Road, LOL. I would imagine, if it is at the same or higher elevation that it is probably not open yet. There is still a bunch of snow left up there. If there are houses or Forest Service Cabins off of it, it might be plowed though. Best bet would be to contact Eldo NF like you mentioned before...

I was up at Iron Mountain the other day. I was able to drive for a couple of miles from Hwy 88, but there were a couple of snow banks preventing me from continuing any further. Good news though, there is a sign that states the road should be available after May 30th. Keep your fingers crossed.
