Warmwater Fishing/Camping Options? 16 Years, 9 Months ago
|

Taking my family and 2 other families, all with kids 3 and under, on a camping trip at the end of June. Would like to find a good campground on a river or lake that has at least somewhat of a nature experience, swimming opportunities and maybe some fishing for me, within 2 hours of San Francisco.
Was looking at Cache Creek Canyon, but replies to my previous post showed that the creek had, sadly, been dewatered recently.
I was also looking at Clear Lake and the Russian River.
Any input on these 2 locations or other options would be greatly appreciated.

Mike,
Consider ONeal Forebay, at San Luis Reservoir.

Try Letts Lake to the north of Clear Lake...great little campground and a neat lake in which to swim and fish...slightly more than your two hour limit but meets the other standards.

Again...about 4 hours away for you (maybe more) is Hereford Ranch...great family campground with a fishing/swimming pond.

And one more that may meet ALL your requirements...right here at Lake Mendocino. Fishing in the lake (I have a pram you're welcome to come by and get) and there's the North Fork of the Russian flowing into it that's planted. PM me for more info if this interests you.
