I got a free pass today, so I spent the day on one of the smaller tailwaters east of Lodi. It just reopened to fishing last weekend. The fish were just waiting for me.
Caught many on dries in the AM while there was overcast sky. Mostly 8" to 10"ers, but there were several in the 12" to 15" range. All on dries ( a generic mayfly ). Top water action stopped when the sun came out, so I switched to a terrestrial and hooked a few more--I couldn't bring myself to fish nymphs. Surface action turned on again about 4:30, and I landed a few more. Also had several refusals/misses/LDR's. No other fly fishers on the river, but there were a few heavy metal slingers and bait guys.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Bash.
See ya,
El Rey
