Short Crane Prairie Report 16 Years, 10 Months ago
Fished Crane Prairie yesterday in the Deschutes channel from a float tube. Nice day. Took half dozen fish, all brookies ranging to about 15". Quite a few strikes and misses. One LDR on what I think was a toad......took significant line, head shakes, etc, with no signs of slowing when the hook came out. Oh well, will keep me coming back! Weather was partly cloudy and on and off snow with 10-15 mph winds. Just as I got on the lake about 10:30 there was an incrdible midge blanket hatch. Little bitty black midges that covered everything....crawling in my ears, coating the tube, breathing them in. I turned my back to the wind to lessen the impact, as it almost looked like it was snowing there so many of them. This hatch happened three times between 10:30 and 2:00 when I quit and headed back to Sunriver.

Woke up this morning with a 2 inch blanket of snow on the ground. Still snowing as I type this note. Pretty scene with all of the pines covered in white. Supposed to snow off and on over the next couple of days. But gotta head home today. I'll post some more pictures when I get home.
