Fly Swap - Nymph Patterns 17 Years ago
OK... the "In the Beginning" post got me thinking of the first fly swap I took part in on the Board. It was fun and I got some really interesting patterns that I used and caught fish on. So, I'm proposing we do another, right about now.

Since I'm the one doing the proposing, I'd suggest nymph patterns, your go-to California flies. It's been a while since I've taken part in one of these, but usually we look for a dozen or so participants and you each sign up for what fly you'll be tying.

I'm going to go old-school and tie up some Bead Head Eng Thengs, either in a #14 or #16.

So...

1. Bjorn - Bead Head Eng Theng.

Bjorn,
Joey and I would like to be part. Joey will tie his Deputy and I will do some type of copper john. Let us know when you need them?

Thanks,

Jet

Hey Bjorn, you tied all those flies up at the pleasanton show.

Yeah, I did tie a bunch up at Pleasanton, but those are in my box already and I want to use those this summer, so I'll tie up NEW Eng Thengs, since I kind of got in a groove with them at the show.

After a year of very little tying I've actually broken out the vice latley and I've been tying again. Nice thing to do while the wife is out of town (which is about 3-4 days a week now), once little (not so little) Anna is down for the night.

I just wish there were more fishing shows on TV!

So how does this work? How many should one tie (assuming 12 participants)? And would we each mail out the flies to each other, or mail them to one person, and have them distribute out from there?

I’ve recently been at the vice, and been working on a larger FB rubber-leg dark and golden/yellow stone pattern that I like. I haven’t fished them yet, but it would be cool if I had a group of people to get feedback from with their experiences.

Are you guys interested? If so, I’m in…

Sounds good Pound.

The way it works is you tie as many as people are involved... probably 12, and you mail them to one person, probably me (Phil, did you want those sent to you for the web page, or should I handle it?) and then, when they are all recieved, and assuming the guy collecting them hasn't gone out and lost them all, he/she will send out packets to all participants with the 12 flies... I guess if there are 12, you only need to tie 11, eh?

Word.

I'm in. I'll tie a copper john variation. It uses brown and copper wire, so it looks like a wire version of a pt. Mike Borba

Bjorn,

Let's ask each tier to tie two extra that we can box and include in the raffle at the Spring Bash. Can either send to you or I. I will need pictures for the website if you have a camera?

I will work to put up a fly swap page later today.

Phil

Hey Phil, how about folks send them to you... I have proven not very good at taking pics of flies... and I recently threw my good camera into Lake Tahoe... it was not a waterproof camera and it was not intentional... it is now a holder for a rather specific rechargable battery.

Uff da.
