Pyramid Yesterday - Post Fixed 17 Years ago
Jeff G's post (Took a little effort to fix the file so it would post)

Okay, one last try to do my duty here.  I fished Pyramid yesterday.  I fished the south end of the nets from about 10:00 a.m. until 6:30.  From 10-3, the guys on ladders did well with some periods being more productive than others, but it seemed as if someone always had a fish on.  The were using buggers, black mostly, and white/chartreuse or white/pink beetles.  Almost everyone was fishing buggers.  I, on the other hand, wanting to be different and wanting to fish nymphs under an indicator, and being stubborn and being stupid, did not fish buggers much and when I did I was unsuccessful.  My buddy and I went in for lunch at 3:00 p.m. and at that time, we had seen many fish caught, but neither of us caught a single fish.  We were, however, in tubes about 50 yards beyond the ladder line like we usually are.

After lunch we decided to bite the bullet, swallow our pride and back into the ladder line with the guys who had been catching fish.  Okay, so I do have a clue eventually.  I still did not feel like chuck and duck, though, so I stuck with an indicator.  I made my first cast after lunch at 4:15. I stuck my first fish of the day on the next cast.  Between 4:15 and 6::00 or so I caught 7 fish.  5 ona a #16 bh prince, one on a #16 brassie and 1 on a #16 bh grey choronomid.  My buddy was right next to me and he caught 7 in the same period of time, all on a bugger.  It was the brightest, ugliest chartreuse thing I have ever seen, but effective.  We went from skunked before lunch to the most productive after.  It was fun.

All tolled, we caught 14 fish.  3 were in the slot range,8 between 20"-24" and 3 over 24".  Next weekend is the last weekend to fish the nets, then they close until May 15.  I heard there were 4 fish over 10 pounds caught yesterday, one at Pelican, one at the north nets and two at the south nets.

There you go, my annual post.  Been very busy these days with the girls so I don't come around too often.  It is nice to know I still can, though and I suppose it would be nice if I threw some info your way every now and then.  Good luck to all those who are Pyramid bound in the next month, it will only get better from here on out.

Tight Lines!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Today was my first day at pyramid since Jan1 because of work (lucky I suppose) and a trip down to NZ (damn luck I'm certain), so I'm not as up on conditions as I should be, but some friends have gave me a couple reports ranging from slow to fair. Glad you finally got a clue No one really seemed on them today and nothing for me today despite a stiff shoulder telling me I put in quite a few casts. Did see a golden eagle doing its best buzzard imitation which isn't too common for me. Wish I could have gotten a good pic of it. Said a hello to Betty at south nets in the morning as we passed through. She had a few on nymphs yesterday but just for a quick spell mid-afternoon.

Saw the lake at its most beautiful on New Year's day. Just have to share. I managed one slot fish while my buddy Tom got a 10-4oz (grats again Tom). It was a cold and breezy day with broken cloud cover. Right as we were packing up the wind just dropped to nothing and the whole lake went flat as the sunset came on. It was gorgeous, quiet, the kind of moment that just fills you with wonder. OK OK getting all romantic about it now

Thanks Ed. Getting better, but mother nature has to be given all credit. That was my favorite from the entire set.

For those who prefer the beauty within the water, here's a fish shot...

Jeff:
Glad you had a good day. I fished that Saturday at pelican off the rocks and picked up 4 on indicator in a couple of hours. Fished same area Sunday and landed 6. Monday OK, also.

After that, it all went south. Big storm moved in Monday night--a full on blizzard, 50 mph winds and 4 inches of snow. Absolutely beautiful Tuesday morning, everything totally white. However, the fishing sucked for most of the rest of the week. Water temps plummeted. Hardly any fish caught at nets and Pelican until it began to turn around Thurs evening. Friday OK, but not stellar.

Should improve as water temps climb. Thanks for your report.
Betty

PS, Eric, good to run into you!!
