Update: The Fly Fishing Film Tour in Modesto 17 Years ago
    An update and a reminder:

I have updated the original listing with details on raffle ticket costs. The tickets are available at the theater or at Sierra Anglers Fly Shop in Modesto - 209 572-2212

The Stanislaus Fly Fishers would love to have you come out and support disabled vets. The club gets absolutely no remuneration for this event, every dime of the proceeds going to Rivers of Recovery.

    Thanks!

Well, it HAD been scheduled to show at the Clovis North HS auditorium on 2/26, but I think that show may have been canceled or rescheduled. Check with the Drake folks to find out: Contact.

Other than that, Modesto is your closest venue. It plays in Santa Cruz on 3/27 though.

FINAL NUMBERS:The Fly Fishing Film Tour in Modesto 17 Years ago
I am happy to report the final results for the Stanislaus Fly Fishers fundraiser for Rivers of Recovery via the Drake Fly Fishing Film Tour and raffle, which took place last Thursday evening in Modesto.

There were over 250 people in attendance at the State Theater, and we raised over $16,000, which ALL goes directly to providing scholarships to veterans to Rivers of Recovery's program on the Green River in Utah. This amount is enough for 10 scholarships!

If you were able to attend and help make this possible, a heartfelt thank you from the Stanislaus Fly Fishers.

    Buzz,

I brought a car load of folks to the event. For a new club (even an old club for that matter), I was impressed with what was available to attendees. The pizza and beer was icing on the cake. At least we know what to expect next go around. It was nice to see that you were able to secure "Rivers of a Lost Coast" in the future. Traffic from the South bay area was not that difficult time wise. It was heartening to find food sources close to the theater. Parking near the theater was not an issue. I'll buy pizza and beer next go around within the theater and anticipate the raffle with full force of my wallet.

Kudos to the Stanislaus Fly Fishers for this effort. I'll be back next year and/or next time with another full vehicle of fly fishing friends.

    All the best,

    gitt

    Gitt,

Thanks for your support of the veterans that will be the beneficiary of these funds. It was really great to be able to do something like this that was a lot of fun for all of us flyfishers, provide funds so we might help others, and potentially add new members to the flyfishing brotherhood as well!

I hope you got the chance to visit with Dan Cook, the founder of Rivers of Recovery. He is very passionate about his work AND flyfishing. He told us that he welcomes any and all that want to donate a weekend of their time to come out to the Green River and act as guides and friends to the veterans that participate in the program.

As you mention, the State Theater will be presenting "Rivers of a Lost Coast" sometime next month. I will post more information when it is available, although this showing does not benefit the Stanislaus Fly Fishers or any charity. It is great to be able to view these films on the big screen, however. As you found out, the State is a little bit different as theaters go, in that they sell adult beverages that can be enjoyed by patrons during the show.
