It's now been a few years since the infamous New Zealand Mud Snail has been found in several of our California waters. Ever since I first heard about these pests, I heard dire and apocalyptic warnings that the streams that have been infested with them would soon have major issues with their aquatic insect populations, and ultimately, the fish that feed on them. Has this actually come to pass? Is anyone studying this? How long does it take to find results or come to some kind of conclusion on the matter? Do any of you have any current information about what is being done?
In all honesty, I haven't noticed any real change in some of the waters that I fish that contain the NZMS, and I fished them before and after the discovered infestations. Rest assured, I'm not making light of the whole situation, but I would sincerely like to put the question out there and hope that some of you out there can enlighten me as to what the current situation with these critters.
Many thanks!
