Update from Bluegrass Bill - Still Alive! 17 Years ago
Howdy Folks,

Many of you know I have not been on the board posting much in the last year or so. It has been a very hectic time for me at work as the agency I work for, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, has been going through some significant changes and challenges with budget, staffing and oversight. It seems I am working twice as hard as in recent years and getting half as much done! It sure has taken its toll on my fishing as I only went a few times in 2008 and have not wet a line yet this year . I am just really glad that I made that trip to float the Kanektok River in Alaska back in 2007 with board members Greg, Michael, Joe, and Eric because I sure have not had time to do that or hardly any kind of fishing since then.

Things will be changing at the end of this year as I will be retiring after 36 years with the NRCS ! Man I can hardly wait. I definitely will get back to much more of my favorite pastimes, fly fishing and playing a lot more music.

In the meantime, here is a link to some old and new songs from the band including an old Northern California Fly fishing board song I wrote for the board back in 2006. Click on the link below and look for the song at the bottom of the page. I do have the Northern California Fly Fishing Blues right now! Come 2010 however they will be long gone!!!!

Best Wishes to all,

Bill,

Congratulations on your retirement. I too left local government service in January. Just got to be too much. More to do with less resources. I reached the breaking point.

See you at the Bash?

Thanks Charlie,

I am definitely ready. Life is to short to subject ourselves to unnecessary stress and pressure when we reach a point where we can walk away from all that. Regarding the bash, I am sure going to try to get up there to be part of that this year.

Best Wishes,

Bill

You'd BETTER be there, Bill, we changed the date from Father's Day weekend just for you!

Glad to see you are still kicking. Regards to Dana.

Hey Buzz,

I did notice that and do appreciate you all making that adjustment just for me . Seriously though that does make a big difference and should allow Dana and I to get up for the bash. I can tell you I am sure looking forward to retiring and having just a whole lot more time to get back to a lot more fishing.

Best Wishes to you and your family!

Bill,

As I re-read your post, I realize you are not yet retired...but getting close. The sooner the better.

Oddly enough, I have not done a lot of stuff in the 2 months since I retired. One week on the coast in Orange County (Newport Coast Mariott, between Corona Del Mar and Laguna Beach, SWEET, and yes, I went to Disneyland!) and a week in Las Vegas (Mariott Grand Chateau on the strip [very sweet as well!!]). End of this month, I'm going to Pyramid Lake with the Boys and Girl.(Betty will be there).

I sure have slept alot. Getting up at 7 or 8 and recently (today) at 9 in the morning (time change?). I think I'm catching up on 35 years of sleep. Betty told me that would happen. It is sure nice to not set the alarm....I have only set the alarm twice so far, once to go fishing locally for the day and the other to go to SangerDave's to tie flies. I'm learning that finally. Thanks Dave.

This is heaven. Bill, you will have a huge smile on your face.

For the rest of you, I am sorry for rubbing it in.....but, us ORF have paid our dues. Ask Ed.
