Finally, a blowout! 17 Years, 1 Month ago
At last the recent rains have given us a river here on the coast. The mouth of the SLR is blown open so the adults can come in and the young'uns can leave. River had been running at a miserable 20CFS or less most of the winter, over the weekend it peaked at about 4000. Thankfully below the threshold for major flooding, but plenty of water none the less. Looks like there might even be a short steelhead season over here.

The San Lorenzo was a joke until this weekend. Flows were hoovering around an all-time low.

Any insight on the steelhead fishery? I'm a newbie to the area and really need to wet a line. This weekend looks like it could be the one...

One bit of insight Notch...if it clears enough to fish, be sure to bring your own rock.

Yup,

The Big Sur and carmel both peaked above 1000 cfs - first time the Carmel has showed above 0.0000 in six minths.

Maybe we'll get some steelies in. Hope so!

If you find a place to fish... don't move. Just stand there. If you're wading, don't go to shore. Someone else will take your spot. It's gonna be everyman for himself out there this weekend.

Throw your streamer in the deep holes. Let it sink all the way down. Try different retrieves.

Huh? 17 Years, 1 Month ago
Hey I'd think that fishing during the week would be good, I never see anyone on that river on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

That could be... 17 Years, 1 Month ago
... because it's not legal to fish on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

I sure hope some fish can finally come in, just in time for the end of the season.
Unfortunately I still don't trust my left leg enough to fish the SLR with water in it, maybe next year.

Hey Notch,

The river is at a very fishable level right now, but it's still too off color. If the clarity improves before the next rain, you and everyone else that likes to fish for steelies will be down there. I'll send you a PM with what limited knowledge I have, I'll keep the details off the board as the locals (among others) get rather testy about SLR fishing information being posted in full view of the public. As if the SLR were some kind of secret spot!

Sounds like it will be combat fishing on the San Lorenzo. That's alright though, I learned how to fish at the Feather River outlets while going to school at Chico.

If it is too crazy, maybe some of the other local streams will be fishing this weekend?
