coastal cutthroats? 17 Years, 1 Month ago
I have been doing as much research as I can on sea run cutts, but I have hit a snag. Noone seems to have a good handle on when they run(in best fishing numbers), probably because they have many different life styles but the science isnt helping me much. So I turn to the fisherman, my best guess is may and june but I was wondering if they are availible anywhere in march. I have never even seen a cutthroat so I dont care if there small in size or number, I just need a reliable time to target them, maybe some flies, I already have two areas that I think I will try but nowhere to go from that.
thanks

Prime time for sea-run cutts is in the fall. But there aren't a lot of them around any more. Juvenile cutts are present year round. And populations of all year resident cutts are found in some streams in the upper parts of the Smith River drainage. Just look for them a bit, and they're not hard to find. From Eureka north is where the biggest populations live, and they are present in almost every drainage.

Stone Lagoon (Humbolt County), October-January

wooly buggers, small streamers with bright colors or flash, & nymphs.

I believe that they count toward the Heritage Trout Challange.
