The Northern California Fly Fishing Board

I decided after continually getting embarassed by the steelhead out here I would try something that I am a little more familiar with and headed to the upper sac yesterday. Waking up in the morning and seeing low clouds and drizzle and imagining the amount of olives that may hatch helped. so I headed down and started nymphing pockets and managed to hook a couple and land one, and then it started raining upwards with all the bwo's coming off . for a while I couldnt find any risers but I finally did, including one bruiser 20in bow, I was not expecting that! all in all a phenomenal day with good fishing and no other people on the river. I really like this place, is the fishing always this good?

It does sound like a great day on the US, for any time of year! What stretch of the river were you working?

I was down below dunsmuir, in the conant and sims flat area. I definantly am heading back down this weekend, maybe see a few more stretches. if anyone is around and sees an ohio plate thats me!

That is a good time for sure. Is it always that good in the winter? No! Can it be? Yes. Check out the Trout Underground, he lives in Dunsmuir and fishes often.

When it gets really cold and the river drops and gets crystal clear, I've had really tough fishing... when it's a bit more lively it seems to fish better, but I've only hit it in the winter a handful of times.
