Clear?? Five minute epoxy? 17 Years, 2 Months ago
Hi,

I am finally getting my head far enough above water to start thinking of tying a few flies. I don‘t tie a lot of epoxy backed flies, but I want to build a few this week.

I went to the hardware store today, looking for 5 minute epoxy that dries clear – everything they had dries either opaque or light yellow. I KNOW I used to get stuff that dried clear [Of course, I may be wrong]

So, those of you who tie and build epoxy back nymphs, what do you use to get that shiny hard clear little bump on top of the thorax?

I am posting this in several places, and I will cross fertilize you all with answers!!

Ed,

Devcon definitely makes a 5-minute epoxy that dries clear and I'm sure there are other brands. The kind I have is in the dual syringe.

If your hardware store doesn't have it, try Longs, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, or an auto parts store. They all carry at least several types. Oh, craft stores or Hobby stores as well.

I use Z-poxy 5 min. (same brand as zap-a-gap) works great. Make sure you do not use toothpics to stir your epoxy as this can yellow it; paper clips work great and save your bodkin.

Hope this helps.
