Any word on the Fly Fishing Film Tour in Modesto? 17 Years, 2 Months ago
Called Sierra Anglers, but the guy was hesitant to pass along the number, ticket information, etc. Buzz, do you have a handle on the Tour there?

As an aside, met with Jeff Currier for dinner in Tracy prior to his Tracy Fly Fishers' program on fishing the foothills of the Himalayas in Northern India for Mahaseer. To say the least, this guy is incredible. Check him out at the Sacramento ISE at the Jack Dennis Booth or on his website at jeffcurrier.com

If I were a betting man I would wager that the flyfishing film tour is a bust this year. They just had some resignations from the key players in the group. I am just speculating right now but it seems to me that if they were going to do the tour the fly shops would have tickets by now and would be selling them.

Hey Gitt,

Yes, Here are the details. I was going to post this in the next several days, but here it is in advance:

The Fly Fishing Film Tour will be stopping in Modesto, tentatively on Thursday, February 26 at the historic State Theatre in the heart of downtown. Proceeds to benefit Rivers of Recovery. Here is their mission statement; " Rivers of Recovery is dedicated to providing unique and meaningful recreational trips to disabled veterans, their families and the families of fallen soldiers at no cost to the participants. A nonprofit organization, Rivers of Recovery seeks to promote the building of self-confidence, foster a sense of empowerment, spark an enthusiasm for the outdoors and provide a sanctuary where enjoyment, relaxation and learning are the priorities. "

The costs of this showing of the Fly Fishing Film Tour have been underwritten by a generous Modesto area philanthropist, so all proceeds of ticket sales will benefit Rivers of Recovery. In addition, the Stanislaus Fly Fishers will be holding a raffle to raise additional funds. The State Theater offers a luxuriously intimate cinema and concert experience like no other in the region.

Tickets are not yet available, but I will make a post with further information as soon as they are.

Yes there have been some resignations at AEG Media, but an individual that worked for Warren Miller (the ski movie group) is buying the company. He is confident that he will be able to move forward in 2009. More information will be forthcoming.

The Sacramento showing of the Film Tour will be held on the 9th of February. That should be an indicator of things to follow. I just hope that you are wrong in your assessment and it comes to fruition. We'll just have to wait and see.

How important is it that the original folks be involved? What will result because they resigned en mass? Did they take the ball with them as well because they did not get their way? Anyone can read into those announcements posted on Drake. Perhaps it was a funding issue. Just curious if you have something else to add as an insider might. Fire me an email if you don't want this aired on the board.

Thanks in advance.

Gitt,
I'm sorry that the person I referred you to did not call you. I have been told that the Modesto date has been changed to Thursday, March 5.
Take care,
Bob

Re:Any word on the Fly Fishing Film Tour/Modesto 17 Years, 2 Months ago
Bob,

You did the best that you could do. I can't fault you for someone else not contacting me. That kinda comes under the "leading a horse to water, but not able to get them to drink" scenario. What sometimes seems pressing to one soul does not seem immediate to the other. I was primarily curious where to get tickets. With a theatre that holds over 500 folks, I am not as anxious about ticket sales now. Please count me in as one of the interested parties when tickets are available. If this venue doesn't get talked up, how many folks do you think will attend? It was the buzz at the last Tracy Fly Fisher meeting and it did create some interest.

Anyhow, if tickets are not even on sale yet, no harm is done. I am still looking forward to it at any rate. I just hope that the boss understands why I had to leave work early that day. Do you guys meet for dinner anywhere with a venue such as this. I wouldn't mind joining you for a beer before the movies. Heck, I'll even bring some cash for raffle tickets. ;^)

Gitt,
Buzz or I will post any additional information as we receive it. Because of the changes in ownership of the film tour, information has been rather inconsistant. I'm not deeply involved in the event, however I do know that the profits will go to " Rivers of Recovery ", a non-profit organization that benefits veterans. They will take disabled veterans to the Green River for a fly fishing vacation. Hopefully, for the vets sake the event will be a great success.
Hope to meet you there!

Here is their mission statement:

Rivers of Recovery is dedicated to providing unique and meaningful recreational trips to disabled veterans, their families and the families of fallen soldiers at no cost to the participants. A nonprofit organization, Rivers of Recovery seeks to promote the building of self-confidence, foster a sense of empowerment, spark an enthusiasm for the outdoors and provide a sanctuary where enjoyment, relaxation and learning are the priorities.

Veterans and families from all armed forces and military eras are eligible.

Air Force ~ Army ~ Coast Guard ~ Marines ~ National Guard ~ Navy
