The Northern California Fly Fishing Board

Howdy Folks,

Happy New Year to all out there! My fishing time and board time seem to be very limited these days but I thought I would try to get over to the Sportsmens Expo at Cal Expo this weekend. Anybody else planning to get over to that event? If so, drop me a line and maybe we can meet up to "drool over" some of the nice things they always have to look at over there.

do not park in lot A or B unless you are in shape for a hike!!!...sheeesh, there should of been a warning that OF's should park in the lot on the South side. I parked shortly have 11 am and I swear it took almost 45 minuties to get to the fly fishing stuff. It was definitely time for lunch before I went to see anything,cuz I worked up a thirst and needed carbs to get my blood sugar back up.

I missed not having an outdoor casting ponds. The indoor pond was pretty skinny and you had a lot of folks watching you ,,,

I pick up some pretty good deals on clothing and it seems that the lodges were offering good deals as well.

Well worth the trip down.

I will be tying tomorrow at 2:00. Stop by. Joey and Jet have been tying as well, and believe they are there tomorrow evening again. Have had sightings of a number of NCFFB'ers the past 2 days.

As Carpy said, worth the time. Park in lot D and the walk to the Fly Fishing areas are shorter.

It was a good show as usual. Dana and I always enjoy looking at different trips to consider.

Joey won the kids 14 and under casting competition with at cast of 70'. He said he was nervous so he only did a single back cast with the Sage TCX 5wt. His best during practices over the 4 days was 83'. I unfortunately waited till last day/minute to give it a try and I looked like one of those Chinese ribbon dancers. We also had an opportunity to tie flies for 3 days and met many great tiers. My head is in information overload and I'm sure Joeys' is as well. It was an awesome experience for me to be there for the whole show but I'm a little wiped out from being on my feet all day and night. I have a new respect for the vendors and the hard work they put in at the shows.
We did not see too many NCFFBr's but ran across LeeS, Peter, UC, and El Rey and it nice to see you guys. Joey experienced his first taste of high pressure sales as the only 2 shops were competing for our business. I think the economy is hitting our fly shops hard. So if you have a favorite shop and want to keep go spend some money there weather you need to or not.

Not to mention Joey had them all in awe as he demonstrated his fly tying prowess over the course of the show in the Fly Tying How To Center. He was making some pretty mean salt water streamers!

Grand seeing and BS'ing with all you'se guys for the short bit of time Susan and I had. And like has been said, the shows are ALWAYS worth at least a day or so....for us anyway.
