Any Eagle Lake reports?? 17 Years, 4 Months ago
What is the limit for dead fish on a stringer up there. Folks are watching and seeing over limits taken by the meat fisherman. Now, there is nothing wrong with being a meat fisherman. The issue as I see it is not limiting your catch. Without naming names, high profile people that post on this board are doing likewise. Ever think about limiting your catch even though there appears to be an abundance of fish for the taking? One fish over limit is still a 50% over limit in my book. I know these folks can count and they certainly boast of knowing the regs. A sportsman and a poacher- how can that be? You end up in the same category as any poacher in my book, even if you bought a license.

The waning number of game wardens is in your favor- poach on brother with your wink, wink, nod nod. The snows can't come soon enough for this fishery.

Well Gitt...I'm not sure of whom you are speaking. I was up there this last week and fishing was great. I caught 20-30 per day and I did keep four fish over a five day period. So what. This is a put and take fishery. If someone breaks the law then they should be hammered for keeping over the limit. These fish are exceptional eating, planted yearly for catch and release, and provide a place for folks to catch fish to eat. Perhaps you don't eat fish...that's your problem, don't make it ours. You don't like someone keeping a legal limit of fish, tough *%@!.

You prejudices are misplaced and not in keeping with the environment or the facts. It makes me laugh when someone like you espouses that no one keep a fish and yet goes out steelhead fishing, a fish that is truely endangered here in California and sees nothing wrong with catch and release of these fish, many of which die from the handling and stress, not to mention the effect on their ability to spawn from the same gross behavior.

Have a wonderful day.

Charlie - it sounds like you did pretty well. I'll be heading up there tomorrow. Any advice on flies and locations you'd be willing to share would be greatly appreciated (either by the board or by pm at daveb@ncffb.org).

Thanks in advance,

Dave B

Craig,

If a sportsman is aware of violations of fish and game laws, it's an obligation as a steward of the resource to turn in the violators.

When you see or become aware of a poaching violation, call CalTIP at
1 888 DFG-CALTIP (888 334-2258), 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Call now to turn in the scum you witnessed taking more than a limit at Eagle Lake!

Because poachers depend on secrecy and stealth, if you have knowledge of the activities of a poacher and you don't turn them in, (you know that pesky "Sin of Omission" thing) you are be just as guilty of devastating nature as the poacher and you're insulting anglers who obey the fish and game laws.
