Janet Brown Memorial 17 Years, 4 Months ago
I received the following email from Dave this afternoon which he sent to many of Janet's friends. I am passing this information along for any that have not gotten the details of the Memorial for Janet:

Dear Friend of Janet,

With great sadness, I must tell you that Janet passed away recently. I am sending this email to the people on her computer address list.

In her obituary below, you’ll see that there will be a memorial gathering on Saturday, November 29. It will start around noon, at the Cassel Volunteer Fire Company Hall near the post office in Cassel . We’ll gather for a few hours to joyfully remember Jan, share stories and enjoy a pot luck meal. You are welcome to join us.

If you would like to come to the gathering, please reply to this email or leave a message with my friends, Bill and Blanca Jeffers, at (530) 335-5349. We’d like to know how many people to expect.

I’m sure Jan had many friends who are not receiving this email, so please forward it to anyone you think needs to know.

I have had a lot of help and support through this difficult time, for which I’m very grateful.

Yours truly,

Dave Brown

Jan’s Obituary:

Janet Brown passed away peacefully at her home in Cassel on Sunday, October 26, 2008.

Jan was a special person who was deeply loved. A passionate outdoorswoman and lover of animals and nature, she was a particularly talented fly fisher and master fly tier. She and her loving husband, Dave, ran the Trout Country Fly Shop in Johnson Park for over 14 years. During that time the trout flies she designed and her generous advice helped hundreds of fishermen take countless fish. Jan and Dave spent hundreds of days fishing their favorite waters, including Goodrich Creek , Idaho ’s Henry’s Fork, and their home waters of Hat Creek and Fall River . Jan caught and released hundreds of trout during the 40 years she and Dave fished together. No fish was safe when Jan was on the water.

In her career as a supervisor with various Social Services departments throughout California, Janet always went the extra mile to help the thousands of people in need who were lucky enough to benefit from her generous heart, intelligence, common sense and uncommon wisdom. To her many friends, she was a constant, faithful, caring and fun companion. Her love, compassion and concern for her family was always in her heart. She was Dave’s anchor, his rock, and the everlasting love of his life.

Jan was playful, joyous and eternally young. She possessed a wonderful sense of humor and an irrepressible spirit. Jan was a wonderful cook. She liked fast cars and drove them that way. She loved her dog, Stryker, and took him everywhere. Stryker remained by her side until the end.

Janet is survived by her husband Dave, her daughters Debra Angelisi of Marysville, Karen Born of Roseville, Janine Burrell of Cottage Grove, Oregon, and April Lynn of Oakley, her sister Jeanne Rousseau of Ben Lomond, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jan was predeceased by her sister Natalie Gomes.

A memorial gathering will be held for Jan at the Cassel Community Center on Saturday, November 29. For information, please call (530) 335-5349.

Memorial donations may be made to SNIPPP, a local animal rescue organization, P.O Box 2435 , Burney , CA 96013 .
