A Janet story 17 Years, 5 Months ago
I am really grieved that Janet is gone. She was everything that Charlie said and more. I wish I had known her better. I have been thinking of Janet, so I thought I would share one of my memories.

Janet participated in one of the first fly swaps we did on the NCFFB. I can't remember which fly swap it was, but Janet tied her famous rusty spinner. I was working in Nevada the summer after the swap, and I was living out of my truck. I carried all my fly gear with me, and I fished whenever I could. One week, my co-worker and I stayed in Jarbidge. I fished the Jarbidge River for my birthday. I pulled out the rusty spinner for the first time. I caught fish after fish after fish, all using Janet's rusty spinner. It was a lovely day, with beautiful fish, in one of the most gorgeous settings in Nevada. A couple of years later, I finally got to meet Janet on my first trip to Hat Creek. Greg and I went to Trout Country, and I told Janet about how many fish her rusty spinner caught on Jarbidge River. She took me into the back, where her fly tying stuff was, and showed me how she tied the fly. I learned a lot that day, and I had a blast hanging out with a kindred spirit. I now know how to tie a Janet rusty spinner, but mine are never as perfect as hers were. I learned a lot every time I hung out with Janet, and I always had fun visiting with her.

Janet will be very missed.

Thanks for sharing that story Dawn. I think every single time I have fished Hat creek I am usually out there with a fly that she had personally recommended and explained to me. I don't think I can fish Hat creek without thinking about her and Dave too.

My group used to make a trip to Baum Lake over Presidents Day weekend for several years. Janet and Dave always made a point of opening their (seasonally closed) shop for us to get EVERYTHING Janet recommended we get, and we got it! Then we would usually see her and Dave on the water over the weekend.
She was one of the truly good ones. I will miss her.

She introduced me to the HB version of the BHPTN. I tied a million of them for their shop one year (okay, maybe only 2-3 gross), and promptly tied myself a bunch after shipping the order. That's the only PTN I fish anymore, and I think of her every single time.

Thanks for that memory.

I live in the city, but don't fit in,
You know it's a pity the shape I'm in.
Well, I've got no home, and I've got no choice,
Oh Lord have mercy on a country boy!
