Dunsmuir Report 17 Years, 6 Months ago
Joey and I joined Granite Bay Flycasters and they had a fish out on the upper Sac. We arrived Thurs afternoon and checked in at the Cave Springs. The water looked so nice right behind the cabins we started fishing right there and fished all the way down to the bottom of City Park. I managed to hook 5, land 3 and had one break me off. Joey had some hook-ups but did not land any fish. He is usually better than me using an indicator. We had a great dinner at the Pizza Factory and me some members from the club.

Friday we decided to hit Soda Springs with a couple members from the club. We fished down stream for 3-4 hours and no one had a grab. Joey and I decided to hit a run upstream from the bridge where there was a small fall and a deep slot along the far bank. I saw fish after a few casts but they seemed to reject my offers. I changed to a 14 red copper john and hooked 2 nice fish but did not land any due to operator error. Joey remained fishless. We had some cold pizza for lunch and decided to hit to water in the city park area again.

We fished hard all day and the only fish I landed that day came in sideways. Joey was skunked again but he never gave up and we put in 10 hours of fishing. We went to Mt Shasta for some awesome Mexican food.

Saturday we had to leave early so Joey could make his last football game.
Bill Carnazzo was putting on a short line nymphing clinic in City Park so made sure to attend the class. I learned high sticking in Colorado when I first started fly fishing and the thing I remember was how my arm hurt holding that rod in the air all day long. This new technique seems promising and we can't wait to give it a try. We fished till 11am and had to hit the road. We did not see any fish hooked during the clinic.
