I have not yet fished it, but will soon. Returns of steelhead through last week were running about 25% of last year at the Willow Creek weir. It is still pretty early however.

I fished the Klamath a few days ago...not the Trinity, but close. Tons of salmon and trout-steelhead will be there soon. -Pit

Trinity Report - Willow Creek Chamber of Commerce 17 Years, 5 Months ago
Here's from their website:

"The Willow Creek weir counts dropped this past week and they have not seen the big push for the fall run yet. Oct.7th count: 39-jacks; 77-adults for a total of 116 for the week Total count for W.C. to date is 1,792, last year this time 835, a litter better than double for Chinook. The Coho count has really jumped this week for a total of 188 vs. 32 for last year at this time. The Steelhead count is still low for this time about 20% of last years count at 710, 2008 vs. 2,781, 2007."

I was on the Trinity Tues,Weds and Thursday last week. Salmon are on the redds and it's all about the egg right now. Not the super red hot action that was this time last year, but there are fish to be caught if you put in a little time. Focus on holding water below spawning salmon and you will find some adults. Lot's of smolts in the river right now.

So I heard... 17 Years, 5 Months ago
My sources up there agree with you, JSR. It sounds so bad that when I come up next week, I'm bringing a 4 wt. for trout, just in case.

I'm driving this trip too, so I can cut the trip short if need be.

Hey, we can't have returns like '07 every year!

But on a high note. . . 17 Years, 5 Months ago
All turn outs along 299 are equipped with PortaPotties this year for your convenience. They even have stealth cameras to record your actions, if you insist on your usual watering of the road side vegetation.

Sorry Bruce, couldn't resist. You're the only fellow that I have ever heard of getting cited for this type of behavior. I even know a guy that let his pregnant wife do the squat and bladder release along a highway in the privacy of his passenger door. But only long enough before he drove off exposing her, so to speak. Yep, that ended in a divorce as well.

No harm done, Gitt... 17 Years, 5 Months ago
It all came out okay in the end

I've given the matter a lot of thought and it must've been my AZ plates.

BTW, I honestly hate porta potties and always prefer to use mother nature's back yard when doing the water thing. Maybe this year I won't.
