My friends,
And so we have finished the physical part of the process. Saturday we had a very nice Memorial Service for Cathy. Her two brothers and two sisters were there, as were my two living sisters, and a brother in law. The younger of my two sisters introduced me to Cathy about fifty years ago. The spiritual, emotional and mental denouement continues, as it no doubt will for a time.
Our four kids have returned to their homes and jobs, my sisters and brother in law are back in Houston, and Cathy’s family is back in New England.
My deepest thanks go to all of you who responded to my posts, or dropped me an e-mail or a snail mail, or said a quick prayer, or even read the post and said “Oh, man, that sucks!” It really helps to know that there are folks out there who care.
Now I am doing the long process of being an executor, of figuring out what to do with the floral arrangements, of disposing of Cathy’s clothes and personal belongings and so on. It’s apt to be a somewhat somber fall.
On a brighter note, I am supposed to visit Kings Canyon later this week, which should get me on the Kings River for an afternoon, and the following week I’ll be going to my grandson’s eighth birthday in San Francisco, and then going fishing north for a few days with the Monterey Fly Flingers. In between, I’ll work on the less pleasant stuff.
I know I still owe a short Sierra East Slope report, and I really will do it, after I mail off my 5 weight Winston LT to be repaired…..
