We fished the Middle Feather again last Saturday.
The fish were not as cooperative, although it was not a bad day for numbers had we been anywhere else. I had around fifty to hand with many LDR’s.
The interesting thing this day was the timing of the best fishing. It was kind of slow early in the morning. Around 11:00am things kicked in like crazy. Not only that, but the fish were bigger. For about two hours we caught almost all fish over 12 inches with quite a few into the fifteen inch range. The biggest of the day was 16 inches so that was a little disappointing, I often pick up an 18 or 20 incher any given trip into the canyon.
The Velma Mays were still a no show as far as nymphal shucks on the rocks were concerned. I did finally see an adult fly by around 3:30. Velma May nymphs caught many of the fish. We also did very well on # 8 olive stimulators. The old buzz hackle is still a killer too.
I’ll be hitting the North Feather on Friday so I'll see what the vlema mays are up to there.
Of course they are all dead where the White Water River Rapers had their artificial white water flows this month. Hopefully there will be some on the Cresta Reach.
