Discovery Channel Fishing moments 17 Years, 9 Months ago
Just wondering what strange or cool Dicovery Channel type moments
y'all have had whilst fishing...i.e. Osprey swooping down and grabbing
fish etc.

Here's mine:

I was fishing on the Lower Yuba with my wife a few years back and as
I was wading downstream and saw a water snake in about a foot of water.
I noticed something in it's mouth...sure enough he had a 6 inch rainbow
in it's mouth (near the adipose fin). When i went closer it released
the little trout and swam under a rock. The trout floated for a second
and then I grabbed it.

It was bleeding a bit on both sides...two nice fang marks. I held him
(or her ..don't want to be politically incorrect ) and let water
go thru the gills and the little guy was on his way.

Pretty ambitious snake considering it was only about two feet long and
I highly doubt it could have shoved that 6" sushi in it's mouth.

What about y'all?

Well you see... (Don't all good stories start like that?) I was fishing New Hogan Reservoir with my friend Bill a few months back out of his boat. We had entered this one particular cove and were on the trolling motor casting lures & rubber worms up against the shore to see if there were any pre-spawn fish up yet. There were a whole bunch of geese and gosling walking around on the shoreline, when all of a sudden there was a huge commotion and two ducks came shooting overhead. Then the geese started going nuts and bolting for the water. Out of nowhere this bald eagle came swooping down and tried to grab one of the goslings. He got it a little ways off the ground before losing his grip. The gosling made it into the water with all the rest. The bald eagle stopped on the shore and stared at the geese, then at me with a pissed off look in his eye. He wasn't even 20' away!

I have seen a snake on the NF Moke with a fish in its mouth just like was described here as well.

I've never seen an eagle out fishing before. Guess I've gone to all
the wrong places. But the osprey sure are cool. Saw a few of those
cruising the water at Fuller last weekend looking for some top water
action.

Oh check this out...an albino gold eagle was caught in Colorado.
Amazing.

I've had two Bald Eagle "Incidents". The first was at Hosmer Lake in Oregon. I was paddling around in my float tube during an awesome Callibaetis hatch and had caught a number of Atlantics. An Eagle passed by and perched in a tree across the cove from where I was casting. Next thing I knew there was a big splash and I turned to watch the Eagle pull out of the water with a nice Atlantic Salmon. He flew directly over me at about 15 feet, and as he passed by, my rod went down with an Atlantic of my own. It doesn't get better.

The second "incident" was on Quesnel Lake in BC last summer. I hooked a nice trout and it immediately came to the surface and started jumping. Next thing I know, there is this Bald Eagle diving down to try and steal my fish! The fish bolted and he missed on a dive into the water. Was cool nonetheless.

Given the Bear tracks in some of the other posts, here's one of my own:

Now that is one big pile!

So this begs the philosophical question: If a bear poops in the woods and
there is nobody there to hear it...is there still noise?

Cool eagle story Phil.
