EdK,

Congrats! What size fly did you catch that beauty on? What weight fly rod?

A steelhead fly fisherman needs two qualities:
A strong casting arm and a room temperature IQ.

No, I wasn't, except when that fish was on the hook. Too bad a Ling Cod didn't happen by at the time.

OBTW, I wasn't using no bobicator either...

Bait would've been larger

Had you used a bobicator WITH plastic beads, I'm sure you would've landed one at least TWICE the size of your flattie. UGH! Have you heard that the area all around the upper T is burning like hell? It doesn't look good!!

I am more worried about the Big Sur fires.

Our Scout Camp is called off for the year, the Big Sur Valley MAY be burned over, probably is. Looks like the Scout Camp is still okay, but the road into it is burned over.

Gonna be a hideous summer unless we get some moisture...

Moisture?? You must be kidding. Our troop was moved to Camp Wolfeboro above Angels Camp. I saw some pictures of the area, and it is a beautiful scout camp. We're (not me) taking about 14 boys I think. Will know more at next committee meeting. It's not going to be a hideous summer, it already has become one.

Dean,

Camp Wolfeboro did you say? Wonderful camp. I spent 3 summers there as a youth, then 2 more on staff. That's where I learned to flyfish (50+ years ago). It's on the NF Stan and very near Highland Creek--both with excellent fishing. Dean, if you get the chance, take the boys there yourself and enjoy. Take your flyrods.

A buddy and I were there just a few weeks ago--a nostalgia trip. It's as beautiful as ever. One caveat however: the road down into the valley is as awful as ever. There's also a Forest Service campground next to the camp.

Cheers,
El Rey
