The Northern California Fly Fishing Board

About a year ago someone posted that California permitted only two flies or lures could be used at a time. I can't find such a rule in the 2008 fishing regulations. Is that law still in effect?

Para 2.0 of the regs limits the use of no more than three hooks or lures. Nothing more is listed.

In July, I was checked by a fishcop on the Truckee...I was using a 3 nymph rig and while he checked each fly to confirm the barbs were pinched down, he didn't even blink at the number of flies I was using.

I love hearing about anglers getting checked on the Truckee. Especially ex cops.

Is there any way to search back a year or two in the NCFFB archives? The post regarding a two fly limit was in response to something I wrote about multi fly rigs. It was quite explicit and included the DFG code.

I am always amazed how big of a bird's nest can be created with a 12" length of tippet to the second fly.

Seems like if I want to get checked by a fishcop, all I have to do is go to the Truckee...been checked there at least 3 times in 25 years or so...once by a fellow that went through one of the Academy classes where I was an instructor.

Me too. Switched up to Rio Floro and it was a lot better. Kinda stiff, which helps the tangles but probably limits the life-like drift. Course if you're tying knots you ain't gonna be catching fish anyway....

And yes, I went through the whole floro bad for river, mono good thread here before. Me thinks that you can go one or two sizes bigger with floro so not only can you play the fish faster but you are more likely to get your flies back when they hang up....Not scientific, just my dos pesos....

I don't think he's confused, S-A-D-I-S-T-S is just the "Carpy" spelling for the other word.
